Target Audience

This coding seminar is for those who have coding experience in ICD-10 code sets and desire a refresher course on guidelines and conventions. Attendees will review the coding “rules” and learn how to apply them to commonly coded disease processes such as diabetes, cardiopulmonary diseases, wounds, neoplasms, GI/GU disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, strokes, fractures, as well as aftercare and status codes.

Program Description

Another Coding season begins on October 1, 2018. As always there are new deleted and revised ICD-10 codes. Accurate coding plays an intricate part in reimbursement and accuracy in home health. There are almost 70,000 codes and while a coder will probably never use most of these, it is important to know the code categories and the applicable guidelines for each category. Join Jennifer Warfield BSN, HCS-D, COS-C as she presents very hands-on information on coding guidelines specific to home health and walks attendees through scenarios designed to assist the coder in making the correct code selection and apply the applicable rules. Bring an up-to-date coding manual for practice sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and list noteworthy or changed codes, conventions and guidelines for 2019.
  2. Discuss and practice coding chronic conditions: Diabetes, Neoplasm, Cardiac and Respiratory diagnoses.
  3. Discuss and practice coding mental and nervous conditions, GU and GU diagnoses and signs and symptoms.
  4. Discuss and practice coding T codes, S codes and Z codes.

Coding Manuals

Attendees will be required to bring a 2019 ICD-10-CM coding manual to class, as interactive coding scenarios will be an integral part of the learning experience. Code books will not be provided or sold at the event, and should be purchased ahead of time from a reputable source.

A link to access the presenter handouts will be sent one week prior to the workshop.
