PART 1: LICENSURE 101

Speaker Bio:Renae has worked in the Home Care and Assisted Living Program as a licensor for the past three years. Prior to working as a licensor, Renae worked in the Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC) as a triage specialist. She also has worked as a waiver case manager for six years and has worked in various capacities in community-based services. Renae has a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College.

PART 2: CREATING A BUSINESS PLAN

Speaker Bio:Ms. Toebe’s experience includes critical care, long term care, assisted living and home care. Colleen’s positions include Director of Nursing, Staff Development, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Infection Control, Employee Health, Medicare, and MDS coordinator. She aspires to promote quality of care and has a Six Sigma Green Belt in Health Care.
In addition, Colleen is an MDS and Medicare Master Trainer for the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators. In Ms. Toebe’s role as a Nurse Consultant with Pathway Health Services, she has excelled in her performance in interim leadership roles in long term care and assisted living, developed educational programs, and served as a National Clinical Reimbursement Specialist.
Colleen’s passion is to promote excellence in long term care through education, mentoring, and ongoing quality improvement.

Brian is a seasoned litigator and counselor who exclusively represents employers and businesses. Brian prosecutes and defends claims relating to non-compete agreements, company trade secrets and other business information.
Brian combines his knowledge of the law with eight years of management experience in the health care industry. Prior to his law firm experience, he served in a variety of management positions for a health care company that operated facilities in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Brian uses this real-world businessexperience when litigating cases and when helping clients solve complicated legal issues.
He rounds out his active litigation practice by routinely providing advice and counsel to clients on employment and general business matters. Brian strategizes with his clients when responding to problems and when developing legal and practical solutions to avoid them.
Marguerite’s practice focuses on medical staff and licensure issues, HIPAA, and Medicare and Medicaid enrollment and reimbursement. Her clients include hospitals, clinics, life science companies, home care providers and licensed health care professionals.
Prior to joining Fredrikson & Byron, Marguerite developed her foundation in health law by earning a joint degree in law and public health, clerking for the legal and compliance departments of a major hospital system and serving as a research assistant for a public health law and policy nonprofit organization. Before law school, Marguerite worked in the financial services industry.

PART 7: THE ROLE OF THE RN IN HOME CARE

Presenters:CONNIE DREYER, MSN, RN, Consultant, Home Care Consultants, LLC and JERI CUMMINS, RN, ADN, Supervisor, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)
With over 30 years of home care experience, Connie has worked in clinical, leadership and regulatory roles. Her background spans assisted living, private duty, PCA and Medicare-certified agencies. Her primary areas of focus are home care development, systems management, program development and evaluation, leadership, quality improvement, orientation and education, funding, and regulatory compliance. She is alsoa part-time surveyor for the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) andserves on the faculty of Bethel University.
Jeri Cummins has been employed with the Minnesota Department of Health since 2004.
The first six years in the department Ms. Cummins was a surveyor in the Licensing and Certification section; involved in surveys of Nursing Homes, Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Acute Care and Critical Access Hospitals. In 2006 Ms. Cummins became a full time trainer for the Licensing and Certification section. Ms. Cummins has been involved in several projects with the Center for Medicare Services including the development of a Training Preceptor Manual. In 2014, Ms. Cummins become a supervisor in the Home Care and Assisted Living Program.
Prior to working in the Department of Health Ms. Cummins worked in both Acute Care and Long Term Care. Ms. Cummins received her LPN license in 1982 and her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1999 from Lake Superior College. Ms. Cummins received her Essentials of Supervision Certificate from the University of Minnesota in 2012.
